Monaco Grand Prix: Second huge crash at with oil spilt over track | F1 | Sport

Porsche Supercup cars were involved in the second pile-up of the day as oil was left spewing out onto the Monaco Grand Prix track hours before the Formula One race got underway. Shortly after a horrifying crash in the Formula Two feature race, vehicles were left scattered all over the Monte-Carlo circuit in the second round of the two-seat competition.

In an almost identical incident to the one earlier in the day, race leaders Marvin Klein and Keagan Masters collided just after Turn 1 and spun into the barriers. Cars behind them then crashed into each other as they attempted to evade the initial incident. Images show that two cars were left facing the wrong way and another was leaking a severe amount of oil onto the track. Four cars were unable to continue after the restart.

Race marshalls rushed to clear the debris and oil from the track. A significant amount of liquid had spilled onto the road, which caused a concern to race bosses with the F1 Grand Prix a mere three hours away at the time of the accident.

Stewards confirmed that Klein and Masters would face an investigation upon the end of the race. The event finally restarted behind the safety car with a smaller field. Eight of the 27 cars were unable to line up for the restart. Only three minutes of the event remained due to the strict time window allowed for races that take place before the main Grand Prix.

Robert de Haan, the 18-year-old who took pole position in qualifying, went on to win the Porsche Supercup race, although there were few opportunities for his rivals to overtake in the very short three-minute sprint. But the number of crashes early on Sunday morning is a potentially bad omen ahead of the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris taking to the same track later in the day.

Turn 1 also proved difficult for drivers in F2. Alex Dunne and Victor Martins collided on the same part of the circuit, with several cars crashing behind them as they tried to avert the danger.
